LIGHT

The more I experience life, the more I realize that life lived on our own is like being locked in the dungeon of Alcatraz.  Living for yourself or this world brings no hope or sense of life- just depression and darkness.  Our sin affects us more than we will ever realize.  It causes death in all forms.  Relational death with God. Relational death with others. Sometimes physical death. It affects all of our friends and loved ones.  It brings about such darkness into our lives that we can see no better than the prisoner locked in the dungeon.  Such utter blackness that we cannot see the hand in front of our face.  You see, thats what sin does...it takes us so far from the light that we cannot discern anything. We don't understand what our sin is doing to us...how it is numbing our conscience, poisoning our souls, destroying us from the inside out.
Turning our soul darker than the uttermost blackness of space.
I think for the first time I am more fully understanding why those with no hope- filthy and dead in their sin- seem to turn to Christ more often than those given the privilage of a religious upbringing.

Light.

It is never more blinding and brilliant then when pure darkness preceedes it.
Light so strong that you cannot open your eyes.  Light that will illuminate the world through your shut eye-lids.  Blinding, tear-jerking, white-hot light.
Try living in pitch black for a week then staring directly at the sun.

I think this is a picture of life and God.  God is light.  He is the light of the world- He offers hope and life through the shed blood of His Son Jesus.  God is light, in Him is no darkness at all.
I think the more burried and shackled we are in our sin, the more blinding the light of Christ appears when we finally decide to turn our head towards Him.
Sin, by its nature, causes such destruction, such death, and such darkness in our hearts, that when we finally turn from it, and turn back to Christ-
His forgiveness and newness of life is like a blinding light in contrast.

The God who is.....  light

SHINY SEQUINED RELIGION

It is indeed a depressing thing to discover we have been performing rituals of shiny, sequined religion that we put on with good intention. Like a Versace suit, we put on this ritulalistic religion and think it will make us appear good, and no one will see how we really are.  It feels big and bulky, but people have told us it looks good on us. It brings out our eyes.  But we've looked in the mirror and have seen our eyes.  They look hollow and tired. There is an absence of life.  We know because we've felt things in our chest go right at one time.  We know because we've on occasion, seen fiery love staring back at us from the mirror.
I know, because this has been me.  Maybe this has been you.

This ritualistic religion and piety does nothing but put a Versace suit over the sin that is choking the life out of us, that is dulling our senses, destroying our soul, and deepening our despair.

Deep inside, our souls are longing for life. For freedom. For purpose. For hope. For a filling of the empty void.
Not to be covered by an expensive suit making everything look good-   but for real freedom, purpose, hope, and life!

Spirituality, peity, and ritualistic religion will do no more for this longing of our souls than alcohol, drugs, sex, fame, power, money, or anything else we can devise to artificially fool our souls into temporary contentment.
Only new life in Christ can ever satisfy our souls, breathe fire into our eyes, and give the love, life, freedom, purpose, and hope that our souls crave.

I came accross this the other day, and I think this is the most inspiring collection of quotes I have ever read.  If you can read through this entire list, get to the end, and not have a desire to share Christ with a dying world nothing will ever motivate you!

"Must you go to China? How much nicer it would be to stay here and serve the Lord at home!" She made it plain at last that she would not go to China."
           - J. Hudson Taylor's new ex-girlfriend

"You can do something other than working with God in His purpose, but it will always be something lesser, and you couldn't come up with something better."
           - Steve Hawthorne

"I have seen, at different times, the smoke of a thousand villages - villages whose people are without Christ, without God, and without hope in the world."
           - Robert Moffat

"The command has been to "go," but we have stayed - in body, gifts, prayer and influence. He has asked us to be witnesses unto the uttermost parts of the earth... but 99% of Christians have kept puttering around in the homeland."
           - Robert Savage

"While vast continents are shrouded in darkness... the burden of proof lies upon you to show that the circumstances in which God has placed you were meant by God to keep you out of the foreign mission field."
           - Ion Keith-Falconer

"I wasn't God's first choice for what I've done for China... I don't know who it was... It must have been a man... a well-educated man. I don't know what happened. Perhaps he died. Perhaps he wasn't willing... and God looked down... and saw Gladys Aylward... And God said - "Well, she's willing."
           - Gladys Aylward

"Brother, if you would enter that Province, you must go forward on your knees."
           - J. Hudson Taylor

"The man... looking at him with a smile that only half concealed his contempt, inquired, "Now Mr. Morrison do you really expect that you will make an impression on the idolatry of the Chinese Empire?" "No sir," said Morrison, "but I expect that God will."
           - Robert Morrison

"Here am I. Send me."
           - Isaiah

"And people who do not know the Lord ask why in the world we waste our lives as missionaries. They forget that they too are expending their lives... and when the bubble has burst they will have nothing of eternal significance to show for the years they have wasted."
           - Nate Saint

"Jehovah Witnesses don't believe in hell and neither do most Christians"
           - Leonard Ravenhill

"Had I cared for the comments of people, I should never have been a missionary."
           - C.T. Studd

"Young man, sit down: when God pleases to convert the heathen, He will do it without your aid or mine."
           - said to a young William Carey

"Oh, that I had a thousand lives, and a thousand bodies! All of them should be devoted to no other employment but to preach Christ to these degraded, despised, yet beloved mortals."
           - Robert Moffat

           - John Stott

"He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose."

"A tiny group of believers who have the gospel keep mumbling it over and over to themselves. Meanwhile, millions who have never heard it once fall into the flames of eternal hell without ever hearing the salvation story."
           - K.P. Yohannan

"I have but one passion - it is He, it is He alone. The world is the field and the field is the world; and henceforth that country shall be my home where I can be most used in winning souls for Christ."
           - Count Zinzindorf

"God's work done in God's way will never lack God's supplies."
           - J. Hudson Taylor

"He must increase, but I must decrease."

           - William Cameron Townsend

"Prepare for the worst, expect the best, and take what comes."
           - Robert E. Speer

           - Amy Carmichael

"I used to think that prayer should have the first place and teaching the second. I now feel it would be truer to give prayer the first, second and third places and teaching the fourth."
           - James O. Fraser

"It is just as proper, maybe even more so, to say Christ's global cause has a Church as to say Christ's Church has a global cause."
           - David Bryant

"If you are sick, fast and pray; if the language is hard to learn, fast and pray; if the people will not hear you, fast and pray, if you have nothing to eat, fast and pray."
           - Frederick Franson

           - Clarence W. Jones

"Two distinguishing marks of the early church were: 1) Poverty 2) Power."
           - T.J. Bach

           - David Livingstone

"From my many years' experience I can unhesitatingly say that the cross bears those who bear the cross."

           - E. Stanley Jones

"This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come."

           - K.P. Yohannan

"If every Christian is already considered a missionary, then all can stay put where they are, and nobody needs to get up and go anywhere to preach the gospel. But if our only concern is to witness where we are, how will people in unevangelized areas ever hear the gospel? The present uneven distribution of Christians and opportunities to hear the gospel of Christ will continue on unchanged."
           - C. Gordon Olson

"I spent twenty years of my life trying to recruit people out of local churches and into missions structures so that they could be involved in fulfilling God's global mission. Now I have another idea. Let's take God's global mission and put it right in the middle of the local church!"
           - George Miley

"God provides the men and women needed for each generation."

"At the moment I put the bread and wine into those dark hands, once stained with the blood of cannibalism, now stretched out to receive and partake the emblems and seals of the Redeemer's love, I had a foretaste of the joy of glory that well nigh broke my heart to pieces.            - C.T. Studd

"When I get to China, I will have no claim on any one for anything. My claim will be alone in God and I must learn before I leave England to move men through God by prayer alone."
           - J. Hudson Taylor

"God has huge plans for the world today! He is not content to merely establish a handful of struggling churches among each tongue, tribe and nation. Even now He is preparing and empowering His Church to carry the seeds of revival to the uttermost ends of the earth."
           - David Smithers

"The mark of a great church is not its seating capacity, but its sending capacity."
           - Mike Stachura

Twenty year-old John R. Mott walked in late to the meeting at Cornell while J.K. Studd was quoting,

"Young man, are you seeking great things for yourself? Seek them not! Seek first the Kingdom of God!" He couldn't sleep all night. He finally got up and had the courage to meet with Studd. He later said that the meeting with Studd was the "decisive hour of his life". He went on to become the greatest missions mobilizer in world history.

"There is something wonderfully misleading, full of hallucination and delusion in this business of missionary calls. With many of us it is not a missionary call at all that we are looking for; it is a shove. There are a great many of us who would never hear a call if it came."

           - David Brainerd

"The greatest tragedy to befall a person is to have sight but lack vision."
           - Helen Keller

"'Not called!' did you say? 'Not heard the call,' I think you should say. Put your ear down to the Bible, and hear him bid you go and pull sinners out of the fire of sin. Put your ear down to the burdened, agonized heart of humanity, and listen to its pitiful wail for help. Go stand by the gates of hell, and hear the damned entreat you to go to their father's house and bid their brothers and sisters, and servants and masters not to come there. And then look Christ in the face, whose mercy you have professed to obey, and tell him whether you will join heart and soul and body and circumstances in the march to publish his mercy to the world."
           - William Booth

"Here is a test to find whether your mission on earth is finished: If you are alive, it isn't."
           - Richard Bach

           - Guatemalan Indian to Cam Townsend, founder Wycliffe Bible Translators

"I am willing to go anywhere, at anytime, to do anything for Jesus."
           - Luther Wishard

"The 3.5 billion unreached people on earth would form a single file line that would stretch around the equator 25 times! Can you picture 25 lines of Christless people, trampling endlessly toward hell? Let that vision stay with you day and night."
           - Larry Stockstill

"God does not have to come and tell me what I must do for Him, He brings me into a relationship with Himself where I hear His call and understand what He wants me to do, and I do it out of sheer love to Him... When people say they have had a call to foreign service, or to any particular sphere of work, they mean that their relationship to God has enabled them to realize what they can do for God."
           - Oswald Chambers

"A little prayer, little power; no prayer, no power."
           - A Chinese Christian motto

"When God's finger points, God's hand will open the door."

"As long as there are millions destitute of the word of God and the knowledge of Jesus Christ, it will be impossible for me to devote my time and energy to those who have both."
           - J.L. Ewen

"If sinners be damned, at least let them leap to hell over our bodies. And if they perish, let them perish with our arms about their knees, imploring them to stay. If hell must be filled, at least let it be filled in the teeth of our exertions, and let not one go there unwarned and unprayed for."
           - Charles Spurgeon

"We have a God who delights in impossibilities."
           - Andrew Murray

"Why do you need a voice when you have a verse."

           -Samuel Zwemer

This past week I have been reading Amazing Faith, the biography of Bill Bright.  (For those of you who dont know, the founder of Campus Crusade)  His life and faith have just amazed me, especially with how much he witnessed and shared Christ with literally everyone that he came in contact with.  Throughout his life Bill sought to use all available technology to share the gospel.  This got me to thinking, what tools can I use to share the gospel more effectively? Well, I decided that xanga could be a tool to share it.  I started another xanga site dedicated solely to sharing the gospel, as outlined in the 4 spiritual laws. I linked the site to my aol profile, and have trusted God to use it for His glory. 3 days later, the site has almost 1,000 hits.  Please pray for the people who come in contact with it and read about the good news of Jesus Christ, that God would use it to impact their lives and help them come to a saving faith in Him!  If you have non-Christian friends in your aim profiles and want to link the site, it is

www.xanga.com/ivefoundit

Just imagine how many more people God could impact with His good news if everyone who reads this post links this site for all of their friends to see. I am trusting God to do a great work in the hearts and lives of America's youth and to bring a revival to this nation.  We so desperately need to turn back to Him!

As Christians, we have the good news of salvation!  How can we live our lives as Christians without being obedient to the command to go and preach the gospel to all nations??

Upon request from JD, here is a depiction of yesterday's events.
I get up, go to church, come back and grill chicken for lunch. Afterwards, Beau and I go outside to play catch for awhile. Beau starts throwing me grounders and having me dive for them to come up with the game winning play in the bottom of the ninth in game 7 of the World Series.  You know...the sorta baseball stuff you made up every day of your childhood.  Dont tell me youve forgotten how we used to dream. Wouldnt it be my luck though if on the 10th or so dive I happen to land kinda funny. I hear an all too familiar pop with the all too familiar dagger like pain in my shoulder.  I think this makes 4 times ive dislocated my left shoulder.  4 times...thats like twice as many girlfriends as Ive ever had in my life.  Heres a little visual for you.

The fun part is popping your shoulder back into the socket yourself.
So before summer break officially started Im already on the disabled list. But I'll rehab, and I'll be back for the next play that needs to be made in the bottom of the 9th in game 7!

Oh, and in other news..I graduated with a BSPS on Saturday, and went out to Mancy's with the family for dinner.  Maybe the best steak Ive ever had!
